SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, specifically to ophthalmology. For determining optimum volume of single-port local vitrectomy in patients with a rhegmatogenous retinal separation and a local traction syndrome, a local retinal tear is determined before an operation using reverse ophthalmoscopy and a distance from the assumed installation of a port to the retinal tear center is estimated. Presence of a local retinal traction, diameter of the gripping retinal by tension bars of a vitreous body, diameter of a retinal tear and height of its separation are determined by means of the ultrasonic biomicroscopy. Optimum volume of single-port local vitrectomy (V), mm3 is calculated by formula:

where l is a distance from the port to the retinal tear center, mm; d1 is a diameter of the retinal tear, mm; d2 is a diameter of the gripping retinal by tension bars of a vitreous body, mm; h is a height of retinal separation, mm.

EFFECT: method enables preserving high visual functions and minimizing the postoperative complications due to preserving the neurepithelium integrity.
