FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to thermal treatment of workpieces made from passive iron-based alloy. To increase corrosion resistance, method comprises solution hardening of a cold deformed workpiece of a passive alloy, wherein method includes a first step of dissolving at least nitrogen in workpiece at a temperature T1, which is higher than solubility temperature for carbide and/or nitride and lower than melting point of passive alloy, and a second step of dissolving nitrogen and/or carbon in workpiece at a temperature T2, which is lower than temperature at which carbides and/or nitrides form in passive alloy.
EFFECT: higher corrosion resistance.
