FIELD: packaging industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of detecting defects of thin type, in transparent containers having a central axis. Process involves using a group of control points distributed over control region, on one side, at a certain height of container in direction of central axis and, on other side, along circumference of container. Method involves direction of a light beam to receive by a photodetector rays reflected by inner and outer sides of container wall; measurement in photodetector of wall thickness at each control point as a function of divergence from each other of rays reflected by inner and outer sides. Further, method involves measurement of thickness by analysing obtained distribution over control region in order to obtain geometrical characteristics and compare said geometrical characteristics with reference values to determine whether container has defect of material distribution.
EFFECT: technical result is determination of type defects of material distribution of containers.
