FIELD: manufacturing technology; physics.

SUBSTANCE: system is intended for control of plasma jet. System comprises a plasma generator, a plasma compression chamber having an outside wall defining an inner cavity of chamber, and having an opening, inner cavity of chamber being partially filled with a liquid medium, discharge outlet of plasma generator being in fluid communication with inner cavity of compression chamber via opening, a pressure wave generator comprising a plurality of pistons arranged around chamber, pistons being configured to generate a converging pressure wave into liquid medium, a cavity generating means for generating an elongated empty cavity into liquid medium, and a jet control device comprising means for injecting a jet deflector material in communication with a jet deflector material source and having a discharge end directed at a jet formation location in cavity, means for injecting being configured to inject jet deflector material into cavity such that a fluid jet formed at jet formation location is disrupted or deflected away from plasma generator. Method provides for protection of plasma generator system for compressing plasma from effect of fluid jet formed in compression chamber of plasma compression system.
