SUBSTANCE: invention relates to operation of bifunctional electrochemical system, comprising anode and cathode electrode chambers with four-way valves at inlet and outlet of electrode chambers, separation tanks with water, connected to anode and cathode chambers and with hydrogen and oxygen storage containers, pumps, involving removal of gases from anode and cathode electrode chambers when changing operation modes, characterised by that system is equipped with additional pumps and additional separation tanks with water, interconnected with a source of water and having outlets for connection of pipelines to inlets of anode and cathode chambers of bifunctional electrochemical system, electrode chambers are cleaned by pumping water from additional reservoir and displacement of residual gases from anode and cathode chambers into containers for storage of hydrogen and oxygen. Invention also relates to a bifunctional electrochemical system.
EFFECT: engineering problem solved by proposed invention consists in improvement of weight and size characteristics, reduced cost, operating costs and higher efficiency.
