FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medical engineering, namely to classifying tumors using image overlays. System (SYS) and method for classification of the analyzed tumor with using rules for determining the stage on the principle of the tumor-node metastasis (TNM), based on three-dimensional image data for visualizing the tumor of interest, comprises an overlay data structure (OL) for computing a TNM overlay for displaying in a tumor image computed from the image data. Overlay data structure (OL) represents a three-dimensional geometric structure, typical for rules of determining the stage on the principle of TNM to determine the stage of the tumor. TNM overlay contains TNM information to determine the stage of the analyzed tumor. Overlay unit (U10) for determination of TNM overlay based on the overlay data structure (OL) and location of overlay TNM on an image of the tumor. Size of the TNM overlay is based on the scale of computed tumor image.

EFFECT: group of inventions allows a clinician visually assess and classify studied tumors according to the TNM classification due to the fact that the size of the TNM overlay (OL) do depend on the scale of the tumor image, ratio of the distance between two locations on the positioned TNM overlay to the distance between two locations in the computed tumor image is substantially constant, id est independent of the visualization of the image data.
