FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to polyesters wholly or partially made from biomass. Described is a copolyester formed from following monomers: (i) 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid, (ii) 1,4-butanediol, (iii) terephthalic acid, (iv) ethylene glycol. Also described is a polyester, formed from following monomers (i) 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid or lower alkylester thereof, (ii) 1,4 butanediol, isosorbide or combinations thereof, (iii) terephthalic acid, and (iv) ethylene glycol. Described is an article containing said copolyesters. Also described is a method of producing copolyester based on 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid, wherein present method includes: combination of monomers (i) 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid or lower alkylester thereof, (ii) 1,4 butanediol, isosorbide or combinations thereof, (iii) terephthalic acid, (iv) ethylene glycol, and catalyst for production of reaction mixture; mixing reaction mixture in a stream of nitrogen; gradually heating reaction mixture to a first temperature of about 200–230 °C, and maintaining first temperature for about 8 to about 12 hours; gradually heating reaction mixture to second temperature, ranging from about 240 to 260 °C, and maintaining second temperature for about 12 to about 18 hours; removing water from reaction mixture; and extracting obtained copolyester.
EFFECT: technical result is cheaper and more efficient method of producing copolyesters with desirable physical and thermal properties.
