FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a multiblock copolymer, a mono-reactor method of producing a multiblock copolymer and a method of producing a multiblock copolymer. Multi-block copolymer includes at least blocks A-B-A or B-AB. Block A includes a polyester obtained by polymerisation of lactone and/or lactide. Block B comprises a copolyester obtained by polymerising epoxide and anhydride, or polycarbonate, obtained by polymerisation of epoxide and carbon dioxide. Lactone is ε-decalactone. Lactide is rac-lactide. Epoxide is cyclohexene oxide or 4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene-1,2-epoxide. Anhydride is phthalic anhydride. Degree of crystallinity (χ) of block A, determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), is not more than 20 %. Degree of crystallinity (χ) of block A, determined by wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), is not more than 20 %. Copolymer has measured glass transition temperature Tg for each of blocks A and B, wherein difference between Tg for blocks A and B is at least 10 °C. Single-reactor method of producing the multiblock copolymer involves formation of a reaction mixture containing: (i) epoxide; (ii) an anhydride or carbon dioxide; (iii) lactone and/or lactide; and (iv) a catalyst system comprising a catalyst of formula (I) and an initiator; such that polymerisation takes place to form a multiblock copolymer comprising at least blocks A-B-A, where catalyst has formula (I): ; and where initiator is a multifunctional proton compound comprising at least two groups independently selected from -OH, -SH, -C(O)OH or -NH-, or where initiator is water. Method of producing a multiblock copolymer involves forming a reaction mixture which includes: (a) forming a first block A or B by polymerising a first monomer or a combination of monomers selected from (i) epoxy and anhydride; (ii) epoxide and carbon dioxide; and (iii) lactone and/or lactide; by contacting a monomer or a combination of monomers in the reaction mixture with a catalyst system comprising a catalyst of formula (I) and an initiator; (b) forming a multiblock copolymer by adding a second monomer or a combination of monomers to the reaction mixture. If the first monomer is (i) or (ii), the second monomer is (iii), and if the first monomer is (iii), the second monomer is (i) or (ii). Polymerisation involves formation of a multiblock copolymer containing blocks A-B-A or B-AB, where catalyst has formula (I); and an initiator.
EFFECT: technical result is obtaining multi-block copolymers with controlled elastomeric properties and decomposable molecular skeletons as an alternative to SBS and its derivatives.
