FIELD: ecology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engineering ecology and hydrology and can be used in simulating variation of quality of water surface water streams. Essence of the invention consists in following: river and its tributaries on digital topographic map is divided into squares. Calculating number of squares, covering river and its tributaries. Calculating fractal dimension of river. Calculating change in indicator of biological oxygen consumption (BOC) between two sections. Increase of BOC index indicates self-cleaning capacity of water flow in fairway.
EFFECT: technical result is determination of change of BOC along length of stream of poorly studied medium and small rivers taking into account hydraulic factors in river and fractal dimensions of river.
