SUBSTANCE: invention relates to Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) device (200) for use in a PoE system. For that purpose PoE device (200) contains first PoE port (210) for connecting the device to an upstream PoE device or a central control unit, second PoE port (220) for connecting the device to a downstream device or PoE device and control unit (240) for controlling data (335) and/or power communication (400) between first (210) and second (220) PoE port. Control unit (240) further comprises first power input terminal (305) connected to first PoE port (210) to receive electrical power (320) for powering control unit (240).

EFFECT: more efficient power supply of PoE device.
