FIELD: electrical communication engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical communication. Powered device for use in a power network over Ethernet, where power is supplied through network connections, comprises a first port, a second port and a power switching unit configured to allow transmission of power through said second port in a first mode and disable power transfer through said second port in a second mode. Powered device is configured to detect whether the first port receives power directly from the power supply network equipment via Ethernet or through the second power supply device based on whether the said first port receives power without prior approval.
EFFECT: ability of the powered device to avoid destructive overcurrent due to the fact that the powered devices are activated one after the other.
