Equol can be in the form of aglycon, glucoside, acetylglucoside and malonylglucoside. Pharmaceutical or nutriceutical composition comprises equol or equol precursor, selected from a group of isoflavons comprising daidzein, daidzin, 6-O-malonyl daidzein, 6-O-acetyl daidzein, formononetin, dihydrodaidzein, daidzein 7,4'-di-0-sulfate, daidzein 7-O-beta-D-glucuronide and daidzenin 4'-O-sulphate in an amount of 0.001–10 g/kg of weight and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluents or excipients for preventing and treating hyperleptinemia, preventing and treating insulin resistance, preventing and treating cardiovascular disease, preventing and treating obesity, preventing and treating hyperlipidemia and preventing and treating canine hypertension.
