FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for measuring formation properties. Invention consists in that instrument for measuring formation properties comprises an instrument housing, neutron source for emitting neutrons, arranged inside instrument housing, neutron detector, located inside instrument housing at a distance from neutron source, and neutron protective shield arranged in a working position relative to neutron detector, wherein said neutron protective shield has an outer surface and defines an internal volume, wherein neutron protective shield is configured to prevent penetration of neutrons, having energy below a first preset threshold, from outer surface into inner volume. Neutron protective shield is movably connected to instrument housing, wherein neutron protective shield has an unclosed position relative to neutron detector so that neutron detector is at least partially located in inner volume, and neutron protective shield has a closed position relative to neutron detector so that neutron detector is in inner volume.

EFFECT: technical result is improved reliability of determining formation porosity.
