FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for detecting neutrons using the scintillation effect in wells and other fields of application at oil deposits. Core of the invention is in the fact that positioning is performed in the well of at least one scintillator containing elpasolite, wherein elpasolite is represented with formula Cs2LiMN6, where M represents at least one element from the group including yttrium and lanthanum, and N represents at least one element from the group containing chlorine and bromine, neutrons are fed into the geological formation area located near the well; optical radiation is received from the scintillator generating optical radiation as the result of interaction with neutrons reflected from the geological formation; and converted is the optical radiation fed by the scintillator into an electrical signal, the electrical signal is received in a processor and the processor is applied configured to use the method of discrimination by the form of pulses for distinguishing: a) forms of pulses obtained as the result of interaction between neutrons and the scintillator, and b) forms of pulses obtained as the result of interaction between gamma-radiation and the scintillator.
EFFECT: provided is the possibility of maintaining high resolution of measurements performed at high temperatures.
