SUBSTANCE: invention relates to internal combustion engines exhaust gases processing systems. Method of liquid additive providing device (1) operation, having, at least, one suction point (17) for liquid additive extraction from tank (2), valveless transporting pipeline (6), passing from suction point (17) to supply device (3), and valveless volumetric pump (4), wherein volumetric pump (4) is made with possibility to supply liquid additive from tank (2) through suction point (17) along transporting pipeline (6) to supply device (3), and wherein volumetric pump (4) has, at least, one transporting pipeline (6) seal (19), which can move along transporting pipeline (6) for supply of liquid additive. In method at stage a) detecting device (1) shutdown; at stage b) determining seal (19) position (45) inside volumetric pump (4); and at stage c) changing seal (19) position (45), if seal position (45) is not corresponding to specified parking position (44).
EFFECT: during implementation of invention device protection against liquid additive freezing is performed.
