SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in the fuel systems of internal combustion engines. A method is provided to detect device failure to add an additive to fuel in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, where the said method comprises: a step of analysis of the fuel to determine the change in the amount of the additive in the fuel; a step that compares changes in the amount of additive measured at the previous step, with the theoretical change in the said amount and the step of providing information when the difference between the theoretical and the measured change exceeds the setpoint change. The system to add an additive to the fuel and the implementation of the said method is also provided.
EFFECT: invention provides rapid detection of a fault in the fuel systems of internal combustion engines, connected with an additive input system in the fuel, thus preventing component failures of the engine system.
