FIELD: study of materials. SUBSTANCE: tested material is located with the aid of spherical indenter having diameter D. Parameters of impression are measured after removal of load. In this case material with Poisson's ratio μ2 is used, value of load is in range corresponding to measurement of hardness. Before determination of yield point contact modulus of strengthening of tested material and intensity of deformation εi,o in center of impression are found from relationship and yield point σ0,2 is determined with allowance for intensity of deformation in center of impression from relationship , where σ0,2 is yield point of tested material; εi,o is intensity of deformation in center of impression; P is load on indenter; d is diameter of residual impression; D is diameter of spherical indenter; μ2 is Poisson's ratio of tested material; H is contact modulus of strengthening of tested material; b is coefficient depending on chemical composition of tested material.
