FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and casting, in particular, to processes of modification during melting of magnesium alloys. Method involves melting alloy and adding a modifier. Modifier used is a nanostructured diamond powder in amount of 0.05…0.2 % of weight of alloy, and its introduction is performed at melt temperature 680…710 °C with simultaneous action on mirror molten metal with a laser with energy 0.4…0.9 J.
EFFECT: higher quality of magnesium alloys and casts due to improvement of their casting and physical-mechanical properties.
