FIELD: oil and gas industry; technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalyst system and a method for complete hydrotreatment of heavy oil. Catalyst system includes: a first catalyst having a hydrogenation function, consisting of solid particles, of which least 95 % by volume have equivalent diameter less than 20 mcm, containing one or more group VI and/or group VIIIB metal sulfides, and a second catalyst having a cracking function consisting of solid particles, of which at least 90 % by volume have equivalent diameter more than 5 mcm and less than 5 mm, containing amorphous aluminosilicate, and/or crystalline aluminosilicate, and/or aluminium oxide, wherein average equivalent diameter of solid particles of second catalyst is greater than average equivalent diameter of solid particles of first catalyst. Said catalyst system can be used in method for hydrotreatment of heavy oils, which includes feeding heavy oil to hydrotreatment step, carried out in one or more suspension reactors, in presence of hydrogen or a mixture of hydrogen and H2S, to produce a product stream in vapour or vapour-liquid phase and extraction from bottom part of the reactor, continuously or periodically, a liquid stream containing non-processed products together with catalysts of used catalyst system, wherein said extracted liquid stream is then divided into primary cleaned stream containing first catalyst, that is at least partially recycled to hydrotreatment step, and a stream rich in second catalyst, that is regenerated at regeneration step and is at least partially recycled to hydrotreatment step.

EFFECT: declared group of inventions enables complete processing of distillation residues without formation of by-products or intermediate products (coke, fuel oil, VGO) and at same time provides high degree of conversion.
