FIELD: electronics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for controlling a multi-color signal assembly with a multi-color LED, a connection for voltage supply, and a control input. Therefore control input is connected to a control output of a first control unit for controlling signal assembly by pulse-width modulation signals (PWM signals) or to a signal assembly control output by bus communication. After a supply voltage UB is connected to signal system connection with voltage source of signal system, voltage UDI/BUS at control input is measured within a predetermined time span Δt, wherein first control unit has a first voltage at control input within a time span Δt, and second voltage has a second voltage at control input within a time span Δt, wherein first and second voltage differ from each other. Signal is transferred into bus mode or PWM-mode depending on measured voltage UDI/bus, wherein control of signal system in bus mode can be carried out by means of communication via a bus, and control of signal system in PWM-mode can be carried out by means of PWM signals.

EFFECT: technical result is improved flexibility of usage of signal system.
