FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises the steps of: obtaining a hydrated alumina from one or more water soluble aluminium salts, each of said aluminium salt comprises an aluminium cation or anion, and an oppositely charged counterion in an aqueous medium; contacting the hydrated alumina with the silicon oxide precursor in an aqueous medium and in the presence of counterions said one or more aluminium salts; isolation of the particles of hydrated alumina which came into contact with the silicon oxide precursor, from the aqueous medium; calcining the hydrated alumina particles, came into contact with the silicon oxide precursor, to obtain particles resistant to sulfur alumina; the method comprising doping resistant to sulfur oxide of aluminium with a dopant selected from Ti, Zr and mixtures thereof, by introducing a dopant or dopant precursor together with hydrated alumina during the formation of the hydrated alumina and/or during the contact of the silica precursor with the hydrated aluminium. Furthermore, the invention relates both to the composite oxide (variants), suitable for use as catalyst substrate, and to the catalyst itself for processing the combustion products from internal combustion engines, comprising a noble metal on a substrate of sulfur-resistant aluminium oxide.
EFFECT: increased resistance of alumina.
