SUBSTANCE: method for determining a wind speed over the water surface, in which two spatio-temporal images of the water surface are obtained by the two optical systems on the basis of the CCD-photodiode arrays with different viewing directions. The received images are joined. The distribution directions of the wind gusts are determined by the slope corners of the wind gust bands on the spatio-temporal images and the known angle between the viewing directions. The wind speed is determined over each point of the water surface in the viewing direction on the basis of the model dependence of the wave slope dispersion.

EFFECT: method for determining the spatial distribution by the wind speed range above the water surface on the spatio-temporal images of the water surface under the diffuse skylight received both from the fixed base and from the moving carrier, having a high noise immunity.
