FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for diagnostics of sea surface. Essence of the method for determining the relief of slopes of the sea surface consists in the fact that one-dimensional images of the water surface are formed with capturing the horizon line and part of the sky at small viewing angles and processing thereof is carried out, converting the one-dimensional image into a sequence of digital values, determining the position of the horizon line from the brightness difference of the image, forming dimensionless space-time images of relative fluctuations of brightness of sea surface, switching to a space-time image of wave slopes by normalizing one-dimensional images of relative fluctuations of surface brightness to dimensionless calculated vectors and forming a space-time relief of wave slopes, correcting perspective distortions of a space-time image of wave slopes by transition to an equidistant grid by range using successive interpolation of current one-dimensional images of wave slopes.

EFFECT: reconstruction of wave slope relief without using information on parameters of optical receiver and on values of sky brightness.
