FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method of cooling the melting unit housing comprises feeding of liquid metal heat carrier into the melting chamber housing. The liquid metal heat carrier is cooled by gaseous heat carrier in the heat exchanger. The temperature of the liquid metal heat carrier is recorded. The liquid metal heat carrier cools the upper part of the sealed cavity by supplying liquid metal heat carrier into the cavity, covering the free space, slag bath and the top of the lined metal bath. The lower part of the sealed cavity is cooled by gaseous heat carrier supplied through nozzles arranged on a side surface of the heat exchanger outer wall. The heated gas is withdrawn from the heat carrier from the heat exchanger through nozzles. The liquid metal heat carrier temperature is maintained within the prescribed limits. Consumption of gaseous cold heat carrier is changed automatically or manually. The invention also includes a device for cooling the melting unit housing.
EFFECT: increased productivity and efficiency.
