FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: while operating the engine the ignition for combustion of air-fuel mixture in the engine is performed, particulate matter formed during combustion of air-fuel mixture are accumulated in the particulate filter and the particulate filter is heated to improve its regeneration when the engine load is below the threshold and when releasing the accelerator by cutting-off the ignition supply to the one or more cylinders and the fuel supply to these cylinders. Raising the temperature of the particulate filter to perform regeneration of the particulate filter is initiated by supplying fuel and air from the lean air-fuel mixture, from the engine cylinders where combustion does not occur to the three-way catalyst positioned upstream of the particulate filter. The system for implementation of the method is also offered.

EFFECT: time to reach the temperature required to initiate regeneration of a filter is reduced.
