FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: patients with complaints about dental health receive oral cavity inspection, and are informed about the mouth condition, with joint discussion of the treatment plan. Then the patient is suggested a circle pattern for the oral cavity self-assessment consisting of seven identical sectors symbolically characterizing the mouth state: breath freshness - absence of halitosis; dentition integrity - safety of all teeth in the mouth; health of gums, oral mucosa and lips - no inflammation and bleeding; oral cleanliness - absence of dental plaque and calculus; tooth pain or sensitivity to various stimuli; dental condition - preserved teeth integrity, shape and colour; temporomandibular joint state - painless unrestricted mouth opening. Each of the sectors includes a ten-point scale, and the patient independently evaluates the status of each sector, fixing the points on the scales and connecting the points by a broken line, resulting in a figure of a regular or irregular polygon. The obtained polygon contour is graphically compared to the contour of the circle passing through the maximum scales ratings in the oral health state constituents sectors symbolizing the patient's mouth health in terms of all the proposed components and displaying an ideal condition of the oral cavity. Further, based on the self-assessment data, the dentist together with the patient establishes the treatment stages separately for professional intervention and patient's personal involvement in dealing with the identified problems of the oral cavity. After treatment, the patient repeats the self-assessment pattern, and uses the completed pattern in the future for regular self-assessment and control of the oral cavity state.
EFFECT: method allows to increase patient responsibility for oral health and to form enduring motivation to perform various medical and hygienic measures through dental health pattern application.
