FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: cured prepregs have an improved ability to remove gases from themselves and the space between the prepreg layers in a stacked prepreg package before and/or during compaction and curing. Each cured prepreg is a resin-impregnated woven fabric which has been treated to create an array of holes on at least one major surface. Holes arrangement is characteristic of weaving pattern. As the prepregs are laid in the package and processed during squeezing to obtain a composite member, a shorter squeezing time may be achieved compared to application of such prepregs without surface holes.
EFFECT: reduced squeezing time before curing for part and achievement of structural properties required for the end use in any design.
