SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medical equipment. The method and device for determination of deterioration of the first surface in the self-emptying siphon measuring chamber of the urine measurement system, to control the formation of urine for a patient with a urinary catheter. The first surface is intended to come into contact with urine. The process comprises repeated measurement of one or more capacitance values of the first surface, forming the capacitive measurements; retention of all or representative samples of capacitive measurements; decision-making related considerable damage of the first surface based on the change of capacitance measurements stored. The decision is made by comparing the most recent value with the previous values, so that the first minimum value measured during the first predetermined period or the second minimum value measured during the second predetermined period is compared with the latest minimum value measured during the most recent period. Each period includes the siphon emptying procedure in the self-emtying measuring chamber.

EFFECT: invention reduces the risk of urinary tract infection during urinary diversion through a catheter, increasing the accuracy of measurement of the urine flow.
