FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of converting acrylate esters or their derivatives into difluoropropionic acid or its derivatives. Method is usually carried out using fluorine gas in a hydrofluorocarbon solvent. Method of producing 2,3-difluoropropionic acid involves formation of a reaction mixture containing a solvent, fluorine gas and a compound of formula 1 , where R1 represents hydroxy, alkoxy, chlorine or -OC(O)CH=CH2, to form a compound of formula 2 , with output of at least 50 %, and reacting compound of formula 2 with alcohol and catalyst; where R2 represents hydroxy, alkoxy, chlorine, -OC(O)CHFCH2F and where solvent is a 2H,3H-decafluoropentane, eicosafluorononane, tetradecafluorohexane, tetradecafluoro-2-methylpentane, hexafluorobenzene, octadecafluorodecahydronaphthalene, octadecafluorooctane, octafluorocyclopentene, octafluorotoluene, perfluoro(1,3-dimethylcyclohexane), perfluoroheptane, perfluoro(2-butyltetrahydrofuran), perfluorotriethylamine, heptacosafluorotributylamine, tetradecafluoromethylcyclohexane, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane or their combination.

EFFECT: disclosed is a method of converting acrylate esters or derivatives thereof into difluoropropionic acid or derivatives thereof.
