SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of esters of hydroxycarboxylic acid (glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric) monoethanolamides and fatty acids of vegetable oils of formula I

wherein R1 - residues of fatty acids of vegetable oils (sunflower, palm and coconut oils); R2 - H, CH₂COOH; R3 - H, CH₃, CH (OH) COOH, CH₂COOH, which exhibit thickening properties, and may find use in cosmetic formulations and detergents. The process is carried out by reacting a mixture of monoethanolamides of fatty acids of vegetable oils of formula RCONH(CH₂)₂OH, where R - residues of fatty acids of vegetable oils (sunflower, palm and coconut) containing from 6 to 22 carbon atoms and up to 3 double bonds and the hydroxy acid selected from glycolic, lactic, tartaric or citric acid, in a molar ratio of monoethanolamides reagents fatty acids: hydroxy acid = 1:1.1. A mixture of hydroxy acid monoethanolamides and kept in acetic acid at 120°C for 4 hours, followed by removing the solvent at 95°C for 4 hours, and washing the product with hot water.

EFFECT: preparation of esters of hydroxycarboxylic acids, fatty acid monoethanolamides and vegetable oils and technologically simple method from a mixture of monoethanolamides of fatty acids of vegetable oils and hydroxycarboxylic acids using acetic acid as the solvent and without the use of catalysts.
