FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for separating gases comprises bringing an adsorbent or a membrane comprising crystals of zeolite of ZSM-58 type into contact with an input gas stream containing the first component and the second component to form the first gas stream enriched by the first component in relation to the input gas stream, and capturing the second gas stream enriched in the second component in relation to the input gas stream. The crystals of zeolite of ZSM-58 type are synthesized from the reaction mixture having a molar ratio of alkali metal to silicon dioxide from 0.01 to 3.0. The adsorbent consists of crystals with the alkali metal admixture content constituting about 0.02 wt % or less, the crystals of zeolite of ZSM-58 type in the newly synthesized form have the alkali metal admixture content constituting about 0.1 wt %. The alkali metal admixture content is reduced before bringing the adsorbent into contact with the gas.

EFFECT: improved stability at the early stages of the process of separating such gas components as methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide.
