FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: methods use genetic measurements for the presence of single nucleotide polymorphisms, deletions, duplications, and nucleotide sequence inversions performed in plasma taken from a pregnant mother, along with similar genetic measurements of the putative father to determine whether or not the putative father is the biological father of the fetus.
EFFECT: invention is carried out using an informatics-based method in which the genetic fingerprint of the fetal DNA found in the maternal plasma can be compared with the genetic fingerprint of the putative father.
