FIELD: power industry.
SUBSTANCE: system and method for turbo installation shaft sealing comprising turbine section 110 and a downstream section are provided. The shaft seal system 100 includes at least one seal 180 located about the first and second shaft ends 172 and 174 and comprising a hydrodynamic non-contact seal with a carbon segmented O-ring seal. The system 100 includes connecting line 200 for conducting steam from the first section 110 to the first stage located downstream of the turbine section. The first stage has operating pressure below the pressure in the section 110 so that, during operation, the steam is drawn through line 200 from the first annulus located between main seal 180 and the steam seal at the first shaft end 172 and the second annulus space between main seal 181 and steam seal at the second end 174 of the shaft to the first stage. Both shaft ends 172 and 174 are at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure.
EFFECT: provision of a shaft seal system that does not require sealing steam condensers application.
