FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method includes applying a set of the predetermined spectral phases to the laser pulse to perform a dispersion scan so that the pulse duration crosses the minimum during scanning. For each spectral phase, a nonlinear process is applied to the laser pulse and a two-dimensional curve of the dispersion scanning register is obtained by measuring the signal spectra, obtained in the nonlinear process depending on the spectral phases used. The linear spectrum of the laser pulse is measured or extracted from the measured signal of the dispersive scan register, and the unknown spectral phase of the ultrashort laser pulse is extracted by minimizing the error function using a numerical iterative algorithm. The laser pulse is compressed by applying a spectral phase, for which the pulse becomes as short as possible for the extracted spectral phase.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy and simplifying the measurement method.
