FIELD: spectroscopy.
SUBSTANCE: spectrum-dependent statistics are computed from a time series of digital observations from a radiation detector, defining a mapping from the pulse amplitude density to spectrum-dependent statistics. The spectrum is determined by estimating the pulse amplitude density by applying a map inversion to the spectrum dependent statistics. The statistics may be based on a first set of non-overlapping time intervals of constant length L, at least the same as the duration of the pulses, without considering the plurality of pulse clusters; and a second set of non-overlapping time intervals of constant length L1 less than L, also ignoring the plurality of pulse clusters.
EFFECT: obtaining an energy spectrum from the display of the amplitude density.
