FIELD: laser systems.
SUBSTANCE: ultrafast fibre laser system capable of switching pulse duration at high speed in real time. The ultrashort pulse CPA laser system is configured with a beam splitter that separates each ultrashort pulse from the seed laser into two reference signals that propagate along the respective transmission paths. Each reference signal path contains a dispersion element that expands the respective reference signals to different pulse widths. The optical switches are located on the respective reference signal paths. Each optical switch is controlled at a high switching speed between the on and off positions to selectively block one of the reference signals or temporarily separate the reference signals at the output of the switching node. The reference signals are expanded and the output is a sequence of ultrashort pulses of high peak power with a pulse duration selected from the femtosecond - picosecond range and peak power up to the MW level.
EFFECT: reduced setup time and complexity of the laser system.
