FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: tool for friction stir welding (FSW) is made of high-speed steel and is made in the form of a solid rod, the upper part of which is designed to be fixed in the rotation drive. The working part is made with a support collar and is equipped with a working rod, on the lateral surface of which relief grooves are made. The concave working surface of the support collar is in the form of a truncated cone. The edges of the support collar are located in a plane deviated from the normal to the tool rotation axis by an angleα, depending on the type and thickness of the welded parts from 1 to 15 degrees. The working surface of the support collar is inclined with respect to the plane of the support collar by the angle γ. The symmetry axis of the support collar working surface is inclined to the rotation axis of the tool by an angle γ'. Angles γ and γ' depending on the type and thickness of the parts to be welded are 5 to 15 degrees.

EFFECT: by improving flow and stirring plasticized metal and creating additional forging force, the tool provides a high-quality welded seam.
