SUBSTANCE: device for performing the operation of horizontal directional drilling is proposed, forming part of the system comprising the drilling tool moved by the drill string of extending length, which leads from the drilling rig to the drilling tool. Said device comprises: a transmitter for transmitting the electromagnetic homing signal, a portable device made with the possibility of electromagnetic homing signal monitoring and the reception of electromagnetic homing signal in the homing mode for use in forming homing commands to guide the drilling tool to a target position relative to the portable device; and a processor configured to generate control commands for guiding the drilling tool based on the wellbore plan by using the magnetic field measurements and the measurements of the drill string inclination and length. The transmitter includes a magnetometer for performing the magnetic field measurements that characterize the magnetic field of the Earth, and an accelerometer for generating inclination measurements that characterize the drilling tool orientation as per the inclination. Wherein at least a certain positioning error is introduced between the actual position and the predicted location of the underground tool.
