SUBSTANCE: reciprocating compressor 100 has a chamber 110, a timing valve 150, an actuator 160 and a controller 170. The fluid entering chamber 110 through suction valve 130 is compressed within the chamber and removed from the chamber through discharge valve 140. The timing valve is disposed between the chamber and the fluid volume at the discharge pressure which is lower than the pressure in the chamber when the timing valve is opened. The actuator is configured to actuate the timing valve. The controller is configured to control the actuator so as to open the timing valve during the compression cycle expansion phase and to close the timing valve when the discharge pressure becomes equal to the pressure in the chamber or when the suction valve is open.
EFFECT: increased compressor efficiency.
