SUBSTANCE: swellable packer with controlled swelling rate comprises a core; a rubber arranged around at least a portion of the core and comprising material swellable upon contact with the swelling agent. A liner is applied on the outer surface of the rubber providing portions of the rubber outer surface coated with liner and portions of the rubber outer surface not covered with liner. The liner is made substantially impervious for the swelling agent. Retaining covering layer is applied on the liner and on the mentioned uncovered portions of the rubber outer surface. This retaining covering layer allows the swelling agent to flow through the uncovered portions of the rubber outer surface and come into contact with the mentioned swellable material.

EFFECT: regulating expansion rate of swellable packer with controlled swelling rate to isolate borehole portions.
