FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises casting a melt obtained by melting of titanium or titanium alloy in the mold 2 and pulling it downward as solidification. Surface melt in the mold (2) is heated during horizontal movement of the plasma torch (7) above the melt surface. In the mold a plurality of positions along the circumferential direction of the mold (2) provided for a thermocouple (21). If the temperature of the mold (2), measured a thermocouple (21) is lower than the target temperature, the power output of the plasma torch (7) is increased when the plasma torch (7) close to the location of the thermocouple (21). If mentioned temperature is higher than the target temperature, the power output of the plasma torch (7) is reduced when the plasma torch (7) close to the location of the thermocouple (21).

EFFECT: improving the quality of ingot surface.
