SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the combined preparation of 2,3-dialkyl-2-cyclohepten-1-ones (1) and 2,3-dialkyl-2-cycloheptene-1,4-diones (2) of the general formula and R = C₃H₇, C₄H₉, which are of interest as initial synthons for the creation of biologically active compounds for medical purposes, exhibiting antiviral, antifungal, antitumor properties. The method is that the dialkylacetylenes of the general formula R-C≡C-R, where R=C₃H₇, C₄H₉, is reacted with glutaric acid methyl ester in the presence of magnesium (Mg, powder) and a catalyst Cp₂TiCl₂, at a molar ratio RC≡CR: CH₃CO₂(CH₂)₃CO₂CH₃: EtAlCl₂: Mg: Cp₂TiCl₂ = 10:20: (40-60):(40-60):(1.8-2.2), the reaction is carried out in tetrahydrofuran under argon at 60°C and atmospheric pressure for 4-8 hours.

EFFECT: method allows to obtain the desired products with a yield of 60-82 percent.
