SUBSTANCE: additive for sperm stimulation contains inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi) in an amount of between approx. 1 pM and approx. 200 pM.
EFFECT: PPi addition to media for human and animal in vitro fertilization improves fertilization quota; PPi addition to sperm diluent for artificial insemination of farm animals can improve the proportion of pregnant animals; moreover, mammal oocytes, maturing in vitro in a PPi containing medium, acquire improved fertilization and development capacity, whereas the embryos cultured in a PPi supplemented medium provide improved development to blastocysts.
