FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: moving image decoding device comprises a decoding module for decoding the macroblock size information indicated for the sequence comprising one or more image frames and for decoding the prediction parameters, information indicating the conversion block size, and the compressed data; an internal prediction module for generating the predicted image; a motion-compensated prediction module for performing motion-compensated prediction; a conversion module for performing an inverse quantization and inverse transformation processes for the said compressed data, to generate the decoded prediction difference signal; and a summation module for summing the predicted image output from either the internal prediction module, or from the motion-compensated prediction module, with the decoded prediction difference signal, to output the decoded image signal, wherein the size of the transformation block is selected from the set of the possible options, the maximum size of which is the size of the said macroblock.

EFFECT: increasing the encoding efficiency due to adaptive switching between the sizes of the conversion blocks.
