FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method for calibration of a device attached to a user and used for monitoring comprises the following steps: prior to device attachment to the user, the device is aligned with the user so that the device measurement coordinate system is substantially aligned with the user's coordinate system, and the first device orientation measurement is obtained relative to the world coordinate system using the device, after device attachment to the user, the second device orientation measurement is obtained relative to the world coordinate system using the device, and a conversion matrix is determined for use in subsequent measurements, the conversion matrix being computed using the obtained first and second measurements and information on device rotation value relative to the user around the vertical axis in the world coordinate system. The user monitoring method comprises the steps of conversion matrix determination, additional measurements obtaining, conversion of the acquired additional measurements to the user's coordinate system using the transformation matrix, and processing of the converted, acquired additional measurements to determine at least one user position, user movement, user activity, user respiration rate and/or user pulse rate. Computer-readable media is used to calibrate a user monitoring device that includes a sensor configured to measure acceleration, and a processor for acceleration measurements processing.

EFFECT: use of inventions allows to improve the monitoring accuracy due to the excluded necessity for the user to calibrate the device.
