SUBSTANCE: metallographic specimen is obtained from the surface of the sheet with a clearly expressed grain structure, then a microstructure image is obtained by means of a microscope, which is divided into 9…12 rectangular fragments, the number of grains is counted inside each fragment, the average grain size inside each fragment is found as the square root of the ratio of the fragment area to the number of grains inside it; a sample of 9…12 numbers is received, for them the grain size probability graph is plotted; the inhomogeneity coefficient is calculated as the ratio of the graph width at half-height to the most probable grain size multiplied by the maximum probability of the grain size.

EFFECT: expanding technological capabilities of microstructural analysis and reducing the costs for manufacturing samples.
