SUBSTANCE: food packaging, contains a barrier layer safe for use in the microwave oven, with the barrier layer providing moisture vapour transfer of less than 3 g/m2/day at a temperature of 100°F and relative humidity 90%; And the outer surface, only a portion of which is water-absorbent, while the water-absorbing capacity of the outer surface portion is of the order of 0.5-1.5 g of water for 28 grams of food product inside the package, and the food product is at least one of the following: snack chips, potato chips, fruit chips, vegetable shavings, tortilla chips, pretzels, popcorn, crackers, air products, figured chips, corn chips.
EFFECT: package has barrier properties and contains at least a portion of the outer surface that is water absorbent, which allows the food container to be wetted prior to heating in the microwave oven to prevent burning of food inside it during heating.
