SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the estimation method, characterizing the diameter of the vehicle (10) wheel (14), when the vehicle is in motion. The method includes the steps at which determine the first value, characterizing the derivative of the angular acceleration (α"') of the wheel (14), determine the second value, characterizing the acceleration derivative of the vehicle (10), determination (14) is estimated, based on the first and the second values. The invention also relates to the value estimation unit, characterizing the wheel diameter (14) of the vehicle (10). The unit contains the determination device of the first quantity, characterizing the derivative of the angular acceleration (α"') of the wheel (10), the second value determination device, characterizing the acceleration derivative of the vehicle (10), the size estimator characterizing the wheel diameter (14), based on the first and the second values.
EFFECT: it is possible to estimate the wheel diameter continuously with high precision and without operator intervention.
