SUBSTANCE: composition contains at least one bacterial strain belonging to Bifidobacterium bifidum species, selected from the group consisting of B. bifidum BB06 (MB107) DSM 24688 bacterial strain and B. bifidum MB109 DSM 23731 bacterial strain, capable of adsorbing cholesterol on the cell wall surface, and at least one bacterial strain belonging to Bifidobacterium lactis or Bifidobacterium breve species, selected from the group consisting of B. lactis MB2409 DSM 23733 bacterial strain and B. breve (MB113) DSM 23732 bacterial strain, capable of hydrolyzing bile salts at intracellular and/or extracellular level, to prevent hypercholesterolemia and to lower the LDL cholesterol level in blood. A food additive and a pharmaceutical composition containing the said bacterial composition are also provided.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides prevention of hypercholesterolemia and reduction of LDL cholesterol level in patient's blood.
