SUBSTANCE: in the method for determining the plasticity borders of soils, consisting in determining the specific resistance of one soil sample having known wm and kw parameter values of linear dependence of soil moisture at the liquid limit from the plasticity number WL=wm+kw⋅lp with moisture degree of 0.97-0.98°, immersion of conic indenter with angle of 30 at the vertex and by determining the soil moisture content at the liquid limit and at the plastic limit, the soil sample is placed in the cylindrical chamber of at least 60 mm diameter and at least 45 mm height and placed coaxially at the indenter cone vertex, and immersion of the cone indenter is carried out at constant rate 120 mm/min to a depth of 35 mm and with the registration of the soil resistance value every 0.01 mm of indenter cone immersion with resolution of not more than 2.0 N. In the obtained array of resistance values of the soil sample to the immersion of the conic indenter distinguish a range of invariant values of soil resistance to immersion of the conic indenter from a given ratio, and determination of the soil moisture at the liquid limit and at the plastic limit is performed based on the specified calculated dependencies.

EFFECT: simplification and acceleration of determining the soil plasticity borders, excluding the influence of human factors on the determination results, the possibility of estimating the inaccuracies of determining the penetration soil specific resistance when testing one soil sample.
